Valentine's Dinner in The Black Hills

Valentine's Dinner in the Black Hills

To me, a romantic dinner has little to do with the location and everything to do with the company and the quality of the food. I am not into dark candlelit places because I want to be able to see the face of the person that I am with AND see my food! I am going to share with you a list of my favorite places around the Black Hills to take your Valentine for a wonderful meal. Happy Valentine's Day!

My absolute favorite is the Custer State Game Lodge. I went to the Game Lodge with a group of people to celebrate a graduation last year. EVERYTHING on their menu is superb. They have the most decadent mashed potatoes. Every bite of those potatoes has little cubes of boar bacon. I could have devoured an entire plate of those mashed potatoes. Every dish we tried was cooked to perfection and if you are looking for dessert, check out their flourless chocolate cake. I called and checked and they are closed for a private wedding on Valentine's day, but it is a must try any other day of the year.

Next up is Mac's Grub in Custer. Mac's has some of the best barbecue north of the delta! Their smoked brisket accompanied by a lovely and peppery slaw is divine! You will want seconds!

Moving up to Hill City, if you have not tried The Alpine Inn, then it is time! The dinner menu is simple. You have your choice of the large filet, the small filet and a vegetarian entree that changes with availability. But it's the dessert menu that really shines. The Napoleon and the Raspberry White Chocolate Mousse are my favorites! What is more romantic than a delicious dessert?

The Kathmandu Bistro in Rapid City is a restaurant that I could frequent every day. They specialize in Indian, Nepalese and Tibetan food and they do it at an affordable price. The portion sizes are generous. Make sure to ask for a couple of orders of the Garlic Naan!

These are my favorite restaurants in western South Dakota. Every single one of these places offer a gluten free option. Make sure to call ahead, reservations may be needed.
