October 2013 South Dakota was hit with one of the worst blizzards in recorded history. We received approximately 36 inches of snow at my house which translated into drifts between 5 feet and 10 feet high. We lost power about 30 minutes into the blizzard. Everything in my house runs on electricity and I was NOT prepared for this. I had one Energizer headlamp and a few candles. I had no non-perishable food. Luckily our access to water was not affected.
This year is going to be different. September is National Preparedness Month and I WILL be prepared for our next major storm! Ryan and I will not starve during the next blizzard! I purchased a camp stove that runs on LP Gas and is safe to use indoors. I have plenty of non-perishable foods. Our medications are in zipper bags and ready to grab should we ever need to evacuate. I have bottled water in the apartment AND in the car. Yes, you read that correctly. It's important to get your car ready as well. I have a bag in the car that holds water, emergency food, an emergency blanket, a first aid kit and a tool that will smash the windows and cut the seat belts. I will be adding a folding shovel, a warm blanket, kitty litter, candy bars and another Energizer flashlight to our winter kit.
I went to Target this weekend to pick up a few items and to check out the Energizer display so I can plan for my emergency needs this winter.
I grabbed a Energizer Lantern that gives you the option of using either AAA or D batteries. Isn't that the coolest thing ever? I ALWAYS have AAA's on hand! The dial glows in the dark and the switch allows me to set the brightness at full or at nightlight level. I am pretty excited about this lantern and this is just ONE of the options that is offered!
