Dear Rapid City Regional Hospital

Let me start off by saying that you have a first rate emergency department. I should know, I am there close to once a month. I also appreciate the fact that you provide treatment for me even though I have no insurance and no way to pay you. Thank you.

Sons of Anarchy Season 5 Review

This post is sponsored by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Who is excited for the season premier of Sons of Anarchy Season 6? I am very excited and also a little sad due to rumors that this could be the last season. But if you haven't caught up on Season 5 then you are definitely NOT ready for Season 6!

Heart of the Country Review

Faith (played by Jana Kramer) is the prodigal daughter returning to her home in North Carolina after husband is arrested for a Wall Street related crime. It's a retelling of the Prodigal Son story with a modern day twist. Gerald McRaney play's Faith's father and Randy Wayne plays Luke, Faith's husband.

The Ups and Downs of Menopause

Menopausal Me

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Estroven. The opinions and text are all mine.

I don't remember when I first started feeling the effects of menopause. I know it has been years since I felt my first hot flash. In 2007 I wrote a piece called How Menopause Helped me Save on my Heating Bills. Yes, it really has! I guess that is the upside to hot flashes. The downside would be the discomfort, the sweating, the fact that the rest of my family freezes while I run the air conditioner in 30 degree weather.
These last few months I have also started having night sweats. I wake up in the middle of the night and I am drenched in sweat. I have to get up and change into dry clothes. Once I have done that I am wide awake so add insomnia to the list of fun stuff that menopause does to your body.

Some of my friends are experiencing weight gain as part of their menopause fun. My Ulcerative Colitis has helped me keep the weight off so I am thankful for that one good thing! Hey, I will take my blessings where I can find them.

Some of my friends have gone to their doctors to request Estrogen Replacement Therapy. I worry about the side effects of all of that estrogen but it is definitely something you want to discuss with your doctor.

I know others who like to take a natural approach and use plant estrogens and herbs, that's where Estroven comes in. Estroven helps with weight managment, hot flashes and night sweats caused by menopause.

" As you enter menopause, estrogen levels in your body decrease, which is why many women unexpectedly find their weight more difficult to manage and jeans more difficult to fasten. According to Dr. Shari Brasner, “Estrogen influences energy expenditure as well as food intake, and as levels of this hormone decline, processes in the body that regulate weight also change resulting in a sudden shift in weight. Those processes affected involve insulin, leptin, ghrelin, neuropeptide Y and serotonin.”

New Estroven Weight Management is specially formulated to address the physical changes associated with menopause and to deliver on its core benefit of helping perimenopausal and menopausal women manage their weight.* That’s because it’s Synetrim® CQ ingredient - a proprietary, all-natural botanical extract of Cissus quadrangularis – is clinically-proven to balance declining serotonin levels." -Estroven Web Site

Staying Fresh with Fresh Step

Molly & Ryan #ClubFreshStep #shop

Molly (pictured above with my daughter Ryan) came into our lives a little over 2 years ago. She was 8 weeks old when she picked us as her furever parents. She was very sick when we brought her home. She was so sick that she slept in the litter box so she didn't have to go very far when she needed it. After some research on the internet my daughter discovered that Maine Coon Cats often have wheat allergies. As soon as we changed her food she was fine. The irony of this is that Ryan cannot have wheat either!

Zucchini and Feta Stuffed Lamb Burgers

This post is sponsored by Good Cook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Zucchini and Feta Stuffed Lamb Burgers

Way back when, in the days of old, I would go to breakfast every Sunday morning at a little Greek restaurant not far from my apartment in Chicago. I had the same thing every Sunday, a Zucchini and Feta Cheese Omelette. It was delicious. There is something about the combination of sweet zucchini combined with brininess of the Feta, delicious and satisfying. Then I thought, why not take those flavors and stuff them into a lamb burger? So I did just that!
