Looking for Ways to Save?

Piggy Bank

Since our income doesn't always meet the demands of our lives, saving money can be difficult. But we try. One of the easiest things to do is never pay with exact change. We save all of the change we receive in a jar. You would be surprised at how quickly it adds up. Once the jar gets full we wither cash it in or start a new jar. If we keep adding new jars we find that in a few months time we have a couple hundred dollars with almost no effort.
This next idea is something my daughter came up with. When she balances her checkbook she rounds up to the next dollar on each check. Then when the monthly bank statement comes around there is always a few more dollars in her account than her check register balance shows.

When I was working a traditional job I always overpaid my taxes by 1%. Then when tax time rolls around I have a bigger refund coming because of the over payment. This was always something I looked forward to. Tax time means big purchase time for a lot of people and this extra money coming back helps immensely. The best part is that you don't even miss the money in your paycheck.

I know you are using coupons and matching them with sales whenever possible. I don't know anyone who can make it without using coupons. I have a friend that takes the amount that she saves on her grocery bill and sticks that in a savings account. She feels that money saved SHOULD be money saved! I think this is a great idea and I hope one day that I can try this.

If you have a credit card, do you have one that offers either rewards or cash back? This is another great way to save. I love the cash back option and you can stick that money into your savings account. Reward points are great because they can give you access to things that you would not normally be able to afford. But remember, if you are unable to pay your balance off each month you may not be saving anything because of the interest earned on the balance!

I would love to know what you do to save money. I am always looking for new ideas!
