The kids are grown, now what?: Bankruptcy

Thursday, February 9, 2012

I had surgery in 1998 that resulted in HORRIBLE post-op complications and infections. I had a total of 8 surgical procedures, was on IV antibiotics at home and was off work for 10 months. I lost my job and insurance in the middle of it all but thankfully the doctors kept treating me. I racked up over $40,000.00 in medical bills with no way to pay them.

My friends urged me to speak to a lawyer about bankruptcy california. I set up a payment plan (one I could actually afford!) and he notified my creditors that I was in the process of filing. Here is the beautiful part, once a creditor has been notified that you are filing bankruptcy california they can no longer contact you. Any contact must take place through your attorney. I cannot tell you how much of a stress reliever that was!

Let's talk about a few bankruptcy myths. Bankruptcy does not ruin your credit score, it can actually help it. If you own property you do not automatically lose it. Obviously I am not an attorney and you will definitely want to speak with an attorney to answer any questions. Let me end with this, there is no shame in filing bankruptcy. In today's financial climate more people than ever have been forced into this position.

Disclosure: I am participating in a blogger campaign for Bucks2blog for bankruptcy california and have been compensated for this post. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
